Francis Gilbert, Professor

University of Nottingham

I have been involved in two fields of research: Syrphidae and Sinai. My PhD studied the foraging ecology of Syrphidae, and I have been very interested in the group ever since, particularly in the evolution of mimicry. In Sinai we study the conservation biology of the fauna and flora of the St Katherine Protectorate, and its relationship to the indigenous people, the Bedouin. Our work has included the Red Listing of the Sinai Baton Blue Butterfly.
