The project aims to assess the extinction risk of hoverfly species across Europe, and will contribute to guiding decisions and conservation action for these species at the European level.

As the results of intensive taxonomic research #Merodon will soon be the largest European genus of Syrphidae. The adults fly very fast and low through vegetation and settle most often on the ground, on bare patches of soil in woodland paths, or at the edge of tracks.
